Upcoming Sermon on June 22, 2014

This Sunday we will have a special guest speaker.  Charlie Kymes has a long history in the Tulsa area.  His has been a Minster with the Crosstown Church of Christ and currently worships and teaches at the Park Plaza Church of Christ.  Charlie preached for several month as our interim minister while we were conducting our minister search.

Two things you know about Charlie; one he will speak from God’s word, and second he will speak to your heart.  Charlie has a talent of making you want to learn and connect with scripture.  We know this will be a special treat for all of us!

June 29, Matt Huddleston will start a new study of James.

Fathers get a bad rap in our current world of media.  They are often portrayed as unaware, uninvolved and unable to handle the difficult task of leading a family.  Yet many of the fathers I know are just the opposite.  They work long hours achieving great career success, they are highly involved with their families and give an incredible amount of attention to leading their families in a positive direction.

In a world that devalued on of the most important factors in the success of a family, we need to celebrate and appreciate those who are still leading, caring and serving their families.  Fathers should be an example of Christ to their families.  Like Christ, dads should take time to be with the kids, speak words of wisdom, and even lay their life down for their family.

When we see the life of Jesus, we see a great example for us fathers and male role models.  When we see good fathers or role models see should celebrate that Christ’s example is being brought into this world.  That is no easy or unimportant task!

With our VBS (Vacation Bible School) wrapping up on Wednesday night, we want to recap and celebrate all that we learned.  The theme for this year’s VBS classes is “God’s Masterpiece: be an original.”  In our Sunday morning service, we will also look at this topic, because we know that the idea that God has made us special is not for kids only.  Biblical characters like Moses, Esther, and Zacchaeus demonstrate how much God loves us, how much He is involved in our life, and why we should make every effort to live for Him.

This Sunday we are going to look at God’s masterpiece in the life of Zacchaeus.  There is a lot we could say about Zacchaeus.  There is even a lot we could say against Zacchaeus.  He seemed to be a polarizing guy… either you liked him or hated him.  But when it came to fulfillment, goals and pursuing real purpose, Zacchaeus didn’t let things like public thought, social norms, or even the past slow him down.  he might have been short, but Zacchaeus could see further than most.

This Sunday evening we will kick off four great nights of VBS (Vacation Bible School).

This Sunday we are going to look at God’s masterpiece in the life of Esther.  She was a beautiful women, and she must have been a smart lady, too.  But there is something more to the story of Esther.  She captivated her King, entertained leaders and prominent people… and she was just like me and you.  She struggled with stepping up, speaking out and causing waves. In our sermon this Sunday we will see the opportunity God gave her… and it might just change the way we look at the world around us.

Upcoming Sermon on May 25, 2014

For the next three weeks, we will study about the same characters that will be in our VBS classes this summer; Moses, Esther, and Zaccheus.  God has made you special is not topic for kids only.  These three biblical characters will demonstrate how much God loves us, how much He is involved in our life, and why we should make every effort to live for Him.

This Sunday we are going to look at the life of Moses.  Sure he was there when God parted the Red Sea, sure he saw God speak through a burning bush, and sure he was fortunately to live through the atrocities of a pharaoh killing all the newborn baby boys.  But you will be surprised to find yourself in this story.  As a leader or a follower, this story reminds us that we have a part to play, as we follow where God leads.

We have a special guest, Vittorio Vitolone from Italy.  He will share about his work in Rome and share a message that has been on his heart.  The Downtown Bixby Church of Christ has been a longtime supporter of Vittorio, and we are excited to hear about the progress in his ministry.
